Arjun Babuta is a sport shooter from Chandigarh region of India. He competes in the 10 meter Air Rifle category. He is right handed and his master eye is right. He is famous for winning the ISSF World Cup Gold Medal for India in the 10 m Air Rifle category. The event held at Changwon South Korea saw tough competition between Arjun Babuta and US shooter Lucas Kozeniesky.

In the ISSF World Cup in 2022, Arjun Babuta scored 261.1 points and Kozeniesky got 260.4 points and finally managed to win the title by beating Kozeniesky with 17-9 points. This is Arjun’s first Gold Medal at the world Cup. He has been playing for India since 2016 and also played at the Junior level for the past few years.

Arjun Babuta’s personal coach is Daleep Singh Chandel and he has been training Arjun since many years. According to Arjun Babuta’s coach DS Chandel, Arjun has good consistency and his body stability and position are very good. Apart from that, Arjun also has good triggering style. Arjun Babuta also trained under National Coach Deepali Deshpande and shooter Abhinav Bindra’s coach Colonel J S Dhillon.

Arjun Babuta belongs to a middle class family from Jalalabad region of Punjab. It is a small village near the India Pakistan border. He completed his primary education in his hometown and later moved to Chandigarh along with his family as his father worked with Indian Railways. Arjun Babuta studied B A Honours at DAV College in Chandigarh.

Arjun Babuta was interested in shooting and initially had no idea about the game. Arjun along with his father Neeraj Babuta approached Indian Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra in Chandigarh to get his suggestions. He was introduced to Bindra’s coach Colonel J S Dhillon  in 2013 at this stage. Dhillon suggested Arjun to take up 10m Air Rifle shooting.

After that Arjun improved his performance and went on to win several medals at Junior level. He was trained under National Coach Deepali Deshpande since 2015. In one of the shooting events at Czech Republic in 2016, he managed to get his career best score of 632.4 points in the qualifying game. This inspired his confidence and he regularly scored above 620 points on most occasions.

Arjun Babuta hails from a small village in the India Pakistan border region. Arjun Babuta’s father Neeraj Babuta works as a Station Master for the Indian Railways and positioned at Ferozepur. Arjun Babuta’s mother is a housewife and his sister is Durga Babuta.

Career

Arjun Babuta started his career in shooting at the young age of 12. He moved to Chandigarh in 2011 and his father Neeraj Babuta took him to Chandigarh Sector 25 shooting range where Olympic rifle shooter Abhinav Bindra was training at that time. He got introduced to Bindra’s coach JS Dhillon who offered complete guidance to Arjun and his father about shooting game.

As per the suggestions of coach JS Dhillon, Arjun Babuta started training for the 10 meter Air Rifle category of shooting. Arjun’s coach showed him different rifles and other equipment used for shooting and he was also greatly inspired by Olympic shooter Abhinav Bindra in his younger days. Arjun won his first medal at the Chandigarh State Shooting Championship in 2013.

Arjun also became the Chandigarh State Champion in that year and also won the Junior Championship in Punjab. In the year 2015, Arjun Babuta entered the National Shooting Team and trained under National Coach Deepali Deshpande. He used to train for 10 hours everyday to improve his skills in the shooting game.

He was selected for Junior National Rifle Shooting team in 2016 and this became the platform for the International tournaments. He could not win any medal at the International level at that stage. However, in his next international tournament at ISSF Junior World Cup in Gabala, he won one silver and team Gold medal.

In 2016 and 2017, he won the Asian Air Gun Shooting Championship with good score. He also won Bronze medal at ISSF Junior World Cup in 2018. After that, he made his entry into the Senior National Rifle Shooting team and participated in International event at Mexico.  His ranking was 19th internationally at that time. He also won silver at Meeting of Shooting Hopes Junior International event in Czech Republic. He had a career best of 632.4 points in the qualifying game of that event and managed 206.3 points in finals.

In 2018, he suffered from back pain and other health issues during that time and was forced to take rest. However, he still played for Khelo India tournament at managed to get Bronze medal.

Net Worth

The net worth of Arjun Babuta is less than $1 million. He has recently moved into the Senior shooting category and won his first gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in 2022. He has his own house in Chandigarh and owns many bikes and a car.

Facts and Information

After his Gold Medal win at ISSF World Cup 2022, Arjun Babuta’s father told in an interview that he named his children Arjun and Durga after Indian Gods. He added that both his children have made him very proud.

In the early days of his career when he trained in Chandigarh under JS Dhillon, Arjun did not have proper equipment and played with old guns and normal shoes. However, he later upgraded to professional gear and this improved his performance.
